Horizon Stage Celebrates it's 25th Birthday
It was 25 years ago today that Horizon Stage opened it's doors to its first audience. What a wonderful 25 years they have been!

CKUA Air Dates for Shows recorded at Horizon Stage
CKUA has recorded 3 performances at Horizon Stage for their Live From Alberta Stage series this season, April Verch & Strung, Arrogant Worms and Winter Harp. They will also be recording Hungry Hill on February 14th.

Horizon Stage & The Spruce Grove Library Team Up
See children’s entertainer Jack Grunsky for free at the Melcor Cultural Centre on Feb 15th
The Spruce Grove Public Library will re-open its doors at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, February 15th for a free 7:00 p.m. performance by Juno Award-winning children’s musician, Jack Grunsky. Jack’s unique concerts incorporate various cultures, rhythms, melodies and instrumentation. The winner of several Parents’ Choice Awards for his outstanding recordings and approach to teaching kids through music, Mr. Grunsky is a creative force, whose songs have found their way into homes, classrooms and hearts around the world.
Jack Grunsky’s Family Matinee performance at Horizon Stage on February 16th is already sold out but the theatre wanted to provide the wider community an opportunity to enjoy this wonderful artist. A partnership with the library, and a free concert in their program room, became the perfect solution.
Pre-show cookies, juice and crafts for the kids will be available from 6:30 to 7:00 p.m. Jack Grunsky’s concert will be approximately 45 minutes long, and fans are encouraged to stay afterwards and meet him. Jack’s CDs will be available for purchase before and after the performance, and the library will have a desk in the children’s section open to provide library information, membership assistance and check-out services.
So bring your kids, grandkids, parents and grandparents to the Spruce Grove Library for a family-friendly evening of music and entertainment with Jack Grunsky. Patricia O’Callaghan to perform at Horizon Stage in Spruce Grove on February 9th
Toronto soprano, Patricia O’Callaghan, is a world-class cabaret, jazz and opera singer. Her concerts are an eclectic and theatrical blend of repertoire ranging from Edith Piaf to Rufus Wainright, with lots of Leonard Cohen, Randy Newman, Erik Satie and Kurt Weill in between. Drawing on her knowledge of French, Spanish, and German, she peppers her performances with these languages, keeping a core of English and always offering a refreshing approach to whatever great song she may be singing. Horizon Stage is pleased to present Patricia O’Callaghan Up Close and Personal on Saturday, February 9th.
Trained at the University of Toronto and the Banff Centre for the Arts, Patricia received a Chalmer's Grant in 1996 that allowed her to stop working as a waitress and devote herself to music full time. She recorded her first CD, Youkali, in 1998. It featured cabaret songs by Weill, Satie and Poulenc. Following the release of her second CD, Slow Fox, in 1999, her third CD, Real Emotional Girl, was distributed internationally in 2001. She then toured her cabaret show across Europe and North America and released a fourth CD, Naked Beauty, in 2004, that has been receiving critical and popular praise.
With a gorgeous clear voice that is so versatile it could sing a baby to sleep or fit perfectly into a smoky nightclub, Patricia also performs in contemporary operas from time to time. She has toured internationally in Claude Vivier's Kopernikus and appeared as Polly in Vancouver Opera's production of Kurt Weill's Threepenny Opera. She played a principal roll in Edmonton Opera’s Weill in Weimir in 2005 and appeared in productions of The Beggar’s Opera and Nigredo Hotel in Toronto.
Patricia recently collaborated with classical composer Christos Hatzis on his album Constantinople and she has also performed on albums by trumpeter Stuart Laughton and jazz clarinetist Don Byron. This multi-talented artist has appeared on television shows, including the Ken Finkelman series Foolish Heart, her own Bravo! special, and the CBC/Rhombus special Youkali Hotel.

Trailer Park Boys Times Two
Mr. Lahey & Randy add a second performance at Horizon Stage to their tour itinerary.
They’re rude, they’re crude, they’re trailer trash and proud of it! Mr. Lahey and Randy of the hit Showcase series Trailer Park Boys are coming to Spruce Grove in January and they want all of their Edmonton and area fans to party with them. Their performance at Horizon Stage on Friday, January 11th is already sold out so, due to popular demand, they’ve added a second one on Thursday, January 10th.
Join the comedy team of John Dunsworth (Mr. Lahey) and Patrick Roach (Randy) and their special guest Jonathan Torrens (J-Roc) as they bring you an evening of skits, stories, and lots and lots of laughter. Enjoyed by millions of devoted viewers in their dysfunctional character roles, these three goof-balls will be hurling jokes and insults and interacting with their audience. Fans will be invited to hop on stage for a big-belly measuring contest and stick around after the show for autograph signing in the lobby.
Trailer Park Boys is a popular Canadian mocumentary television series that focuses on the misadventures of the residents of Sunnyvale Trailer Park, a fictional location near Cole Harbour, Nova Scotia. This low-budget program premiered on the cable network, Showcase, in April 2001 and quickly became a home-grown phenomenon. Its 7 seasons, consisting of 55 episodes, have also spawned two TV specials and a feature-length movie. It now airs in numerous other countries around the world including the UK, Ireland, Iceland, Australia, New Zealand, Israel, The Netherlands, Portugal, Denmark and Germany.
A classically-trained theatre actor, John Dunsworth is best known for his role as Jim Lahey, the deranged, alcoholic, trailer park supervisor. Patrick Roach plays Randy, his devoted, shirtless, assistant trailer park supervisor and "long-time companion." Joining them on stage in Spruce Grove will be Jonathan Torrens, a.k.a. J-Roc the white rapper who lives with his overbearing mother, speaks in Ebonics, and frequently uses the phrase "You know what I'm saying?"

They’re rude, they’re crude, they’re trailer trash and proud of it! Mr. Lahey and Randy of the hit Showcase series Trailer Park Boys are coming to Spruce Grove in January and they want all of their Edmonton and area fans to party with them. Their performance at Horizon Stage on Friday, January 11th is already sold out so, due to popular demand, they’ve added a second one on Thursday, January 10th.
Join the comedy team of John Dunsworth (Mr. Lahey) and Patrick Roach (Randy) and their special guest Jonathan Torrens (J-Roc) as they bring you an evening of skits, stories, and lots and lots of laughter. Enjoyed by millions of devoted viewers in their dysfunctional character roles, these three goof-balls will be hurling jokes and insults and interacting with their audience. Fans will be invited to hop on stage for a big-belly measuring contest and stick around after the show for autograph signing in the lobby.
Trailer Park Boys is a popular Canadian mocumentary television series that focuses on the misadventures of the residents of Sunnyvale Trailer Park, a fictional location near Cole Harbour, Nova Scotia. This low-budget program premiered on the cable network, Showcase, in April 2001 and quickly became a home-grown phenomenon. Its 7 seasons, consisting of 55 episodes, have also spawned two TV specials and a feature-length movie. It now airs in numerous other countries around the world including the UK, Ireland, Iceland, Australia, New Zealand, Israel, The Netherlands, Portugal, Denmark and Germany.
A classically-trained theatre actor, John Dunsworth is best known for his role as Jim Lahey, the deranged, alcoholic, trailer park supervisor. Patrick Roach plays Randy, his devoted, shirtless, assistant trailer park supervisor and "long-time companion." Joining them on stage in Spruce Grove will be Jonathan Torrens, a.k.a. J-Roc the white rapper who lives with his overbearing mother, speaks in Ebonics, and frequently uses the phrase "You know what I'm saying?"

Celtic Music with a Heavy Australian Flavour

Colcannon is a contemporary Celtic band from Adelaide whose music and lyrics overflow with Australian content and influences. With powerful instrumental arrangements and incredible vocal depths, they are constantly in demand at folk and music festivals. Canadian’s have enjoyed them at the Calgary Folk Fest, the Winnipeg Folk Fest, Musicfest and North Country Fair. Now Colcannon is bringing their fabulous sound back to Canada, with a much-anticipated stop at Horizon Stage in Spruce Grove on Thursday, November 22nd.
With eight CDs to their credit, Colcannon has toured from Germany to Japan and beyond. They continue to build their reputation around the word by writing songs, recording and touring. All five band members Kat Kraus (Vocals/Keyboards), John Munro (Guitar/Octave Mandolin/Vocals), Pete Titchener (Guitar/Vocals), Bridget McDowall (Fiddle/Vocals) and Damien Steel Scott (Bass) are well known and respected members of the Australian music scene. The Worms are Back in Town!
Canada’s Clown Princes of Comedy to perform in Spruce Grove on November 15 & 16.
Fans of the Arrogant Worms should hurry, hurry, hurry! The Worm’s concert at Horizon Stage on Friday, November 16th is already sold out! But, there are still good seats available for their show on Thursday, November 15th. Appearing in Spruce Grove for the fourth time in eight years, these fabulously funny guys will once again be making audience members roll in the aisles with laughter and mirth.
The Arrogant Worms have been providing tuneful and silly escapism all over North America, Australia and Europe since 1991. Recognized in 2003 as Touring Artists of the Year by the Canadian Arts Presenting Association, their biggest honour came in 2005 when they read in the New York Times that Carrie Fisher and Meg Ryan were singing along with their music while on a driving trip in Newfoundland. Arrogant Worms songs have been used in lesson plans across the country, published in an English textbook, and played aboard the space shuttle, Endeavour. The youth of Canada even voted them the most popular band on a national radio show. The band that came in second was AC/DC.
Arrogant Worms come in three sizes, Trevor Strong (small), Chris Patterson (medium) and Mike McCormick (large). Together they sing about everything from baby poo to politics. Their most recent CD, Beige, is full of crazy and fun tunes like Go To Sleep Little Leech, The Ballad of Edna and Ida, and Pressure Washer. Canadian Country Artist of the Year performs at Horizon Stage
Brad Johner brings his down-home country music to Spruce Grove on November 9th
Winner of the 2007 Canadian Country Music Association Award for Male Artist of the year, Brad Johner is still just a down-home country boy from the Saskatchewan prairies. This proud father and family man puts his heart, soul and voice into songs that both he and his audience can relate to. Join this twelve-year veteran of the music industry at Horizon Stage in Spruce Grove at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, November 9th.
One half of the popular Johner Brother’s duo in the 1990s, Brad’s solo career since 2003 has also been stellar. With four well-received CD’s, two top ten songs and nine videos, he continually sets the bar for excellence. His first solo album, Free, garnered him a 2003 Western Canadian Music Award for "Outstanding Country Album", 2003 CCMA nominations for "Album of the Year" and "SOCAN Song of the Year", and a win at the 2004 Canadian Independent Music Awards for "Favourite Country Artist/Group". He was also recognized with Juno and CCMA nominations in 2004.
The past years have been hectic ones for Brad. Besides completing his second album, Summertime Road, a Christmas CD, and a Classics CD, he has performed at several high-profile events including the Queen's Gala and The Canada Summer Games. He has also been logging many hours touring across the country from Victoria to Prince Edward Island. Married to his high school sweetheart since 1992, when he’s not on the road, Brad keeps himself busy raising his five young sons.

Heralding from generations of Canadian prairie farmers and ranchers, Myrol has a warm and honest sound that touches people’s hearts. Mother Joanne and daughter Haley’s thoughtfully-crafted songs are laced with an earthy truth and nitty-gritty humanness.
