Juno nominated classical duo will electrify audience in Spruce Grove

Denise Djokic (cello) and David Jalbert (piano) perform at Horizon Stage on November 4

One of the most captivating young artists of her generation, cellist, Denise Djokic, has thrilled audiences and critics worldwide with the passion, vigor, and sensitivity of her playing. Pianist, David Jalbert, is also a fiery young talent. With his dazzling stage presence, refined ear for music, exuberance and finesse, he, too, is an impressive performer. Touring as a part of Prairie Debut’s 2006/2007 roster of artists, Denise and David will grace Horizon Stage with their glowing warm tones and honest musical interpretations on Saturday, November 4th at 7:30 p.m.

Already the winners of two East Coast Music Awards, Denise and David’s CD Folklore was nominated for a Juno award in 2006. Released by the American label Allegro/Endeavour, the recording debuted in the number 15 slot on American Billboard Magazine’s classical chart. Denise and David have also each released solo CD’s and prior to Folklore they collaborated on a classical duet album for Sony Records.

As a recitalist and chamber musician, Denise Djokic has performed throughout North America and Europe. Born in Halifax, Nova Scotia, into a large musical family, Denise is a graduate of the Cleveland Institute of Music's "Young Artist Program". She has been a recipient of several grants and prizes from the Canada Council for the Arts, was named by Maclean's magazine as one of "25 Young Canadians who are changing our World", and one of "Canada's 30 most Powerful Women" by ELLE magazine.

David Jalbert has artist diplomas from the Julliard School in New York and The Glen Gould Professional School in Toronto. He received his Masters Degree from the Université de Montréal when he was 21 and has performed in Canada, the United States, Mexico and Europe. His fluid fingers make the piano ‘sing’ and his mastery of the keyboard has garnered accolades from critics and audiences alike.

Horizon Stage is thrilled to present these two outstanding young artists. Their program will include music by Bach, Chopin, Shostakovich and Cassado. Enjoy two classical sonatas, a prelude, a suite and Bringing the Tiger Down from the Mountain II by contemporary composer Alexina Louie, Up Close and Personal at 7:30 pm on Saturday, November 4.
